The Icarus Incident is a top-down shooting and puzzle game created in the Scratch Game Engine. The player is stationed on The Icarus, a galactic class spaceship. He awakes after "the incident" to find the entire ship in chaos and disarray. The player must successfully navigate the levels while battling different enemies and completing objectives. Enemies in the first level consist of infected, zombie like crewmen. In the second level the player battle against the ships own internal defensive systems which have gone rogue. Lastly, the player fights through the command decks and ultimately defeats the infected captain.

I worked with two colleagues on this project,
Ben Bailey and
Zach Dlouhy. We decided to split the work up between programming, visual design, and audio design. I was in charge of the visual design for the project. I created the image assets that went into the game and passed them onto Ben Bailey, who combined my images with Zach's sounds in the Scratch game editor. We also utilized
The Spriter's Resource for some of our Alien sprites.

When we began the project we knew we wanted to create a top-down, retro style shooter. We figured this would keep the user constantly involved and allow for quick, pick-up play to occur. Having this in mind helped as we researched other games of this genre published on the Scratch website. Although the game's development took longer than expected we were able to produce a quality product in a somewhat limited game engine and time-frame.
